'Sisters in Solidarity' depicts the important role that women play in our ever-changing world. Throughout history, womens' strength and perseverance have led them through some very difficult times. It is because of their strength that women today have the right to vote and have equal opportunity within the work place. The tiger lily not only symbolizes out Saskatchewan province, but also reflects nature in its most fragile yet sensual stage. Three women, arms raised in celebration replace the stamen signifying fertility as the center point of life. 'Sisters in Solidarity' is a celebration of mothers, daughters, sisters and friends. I chose urns in this representation, because like people, they too apper in all colors, shapes and sizes. They symbolize culture, religion and even family heirlooms. Some are filled with warm, fresh baked cookies, while others contain frankincense and myrrh. Each vessel stands alone-to be admired, judged or ridiculed for its appearance. But it is in the contents where we find the real beauty and mystery; itis the contents that are the matter of the soul. Some may ask "Where is the broken vessel, is it too not symbolic?" But I ask :Do we not all have chips and cracks of varying degrees? Have we not all experienced in some measure, pain and disappointment or the loss of a loved one? Have we been ridiculed or chose a different path and left behind our dreams and authenticity? I beleive that we can dismantle the social issues that bind the prejudice and racism by honoring each and every vessel of the world. Namaste...Jeannette Lussier
